I agree that ‘fatalism’ is a much misused worst. It reminds me of something Roger Scruton wrote somewhere about people carrying round placards demanding ‘something be done’ as opposed to the far less attractive proposition of a conservative carrying a placard saying ‘do nothing.’
It's good to hear that is working for you, and I think you're right in your survival strategy. I think that there's a lot f truth in the idea that just getting on with it and quietly leading by example is the best thing to do. Not that I'm particularly good at that myself!
I'd echo what you say about 'being informed' too. Most of the news is just a distraction from life, I think.
